Josef Krečmer

The violoncellist Josef Krečmer was born on 8th March 1958 in Vysoké Mýto. He started to play the violoncello in Chrudim at the teacher Josef Hájek. He studied at the conservatories in Teplice at the professor Mirko Škampa and in Prague at the professor Josef Chuchro.

He succeeded in various performing competitions, e.g. the 1st prize in the1973 all-state HM ČSSR ("Music Youth of Czechoslovakia"), the 2nd prize and the award for the best Czechoslovak contestant in the 1974 "Heran International Competition of Young Violoncellists", the 1st prize in the 1975 international radio "Concertino Praga Competition".

After three years at the conservatory he was enrolled at the AMU ("Academy of Performing Arts") in Prague where he studied at the professors Alexander Večtomov and Miloš Sádlo until 1982. During his studies he participated in the workshops of Natalia Šachovská and Erki Rautio.

As a teacher at the Conservatory in Pardubice (since 1979) he has educated several great violoncellists and has prepared many of them for further studies at the AMU in Prague, the JAMU ("Janáček Academy of Performing Arts") in Brno, or abroad (Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Great Britain, Norway, etc.).

In 1989-1991 he worked for the "Yehudi Menuhin Foundation" in Paris where he helped to organize the performances of many young Czech musicians all over the France.

In 1991-2003 he was the leader of the "Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra" in Pardubice. As a soloist, a member of chamber ensembles and the leader of the philharmonic orchestra he has made the radio, television and CD recordings and has performed in Poland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France, Spain, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Japan and the USA.

He is the artistic leader of an ensemble called BAROCCO SEMPRE GIOVANE which he founded in 2004.
